Ivy has very unusual flower heads that are very late flowering; into October. This makes them a great food source for insects such as bees and moths, when so many other garden plants have finished flowering. If you have a garage wall or old fence, ivy can add some vertical greenery, that can also be used by roosting birds at night. A great addition to a wildlife garden.
If you don't have a suitable wall, or want to tightly control it's growth, it can be grown in a planter or pot with a trellis or pole.
