1977 Hedgehog Stamp

This Royal Mail hedgehog stamp was released in 1977. 4 things have changed - QEII is no longer on the stamps, a stamp now costs a lot more than 9p! Stamps are now no longer lickable and hedgehog numbers have decreased massively since the 1970s. Just since the year 2000 they have declined by up to 75 per cent, in some parts of the country. Wildlife gardening can help reverse this trend. Add a pond to your garden. Leave a wild corner, and grow plenty of flowers to attract insects that can provide a good food source for hedgehogs. Garden organically and only use environmentally friendly weedkiller, if you do use weedkiller.
