Solar Water Heater

Imagine having a hot water spring in your garden or on your smallholding, that provides warm and hot water throughout the year. No matter how much you use, the gas or electric heating bill never increases, when you use the hot water? No need to imagine, all you need it one of these solar water heaters.

Unlike solar panel roof installations that create electricity, this solar water heater heats water directly from the solar panel without any electricity. Whilst full solar roofs are a fantastic renewable energy solution, they can also be complicated and outside the budget of many people. (A typical solar roof costs about £7,000).

The advantage of the solar water heater, is that it is simple to set up by either someone with some basic DIY skills, or a local plumber. The tank has an inlet and outlet, and once fitted to a mains water pipe, will start providing heated water.

Solar water heaters are very common in warm mediterranean countries, for obvious reasons, with many hot sunny days, to heat water. However, they can also heat water here in the north of Europe.

For example;

During winter with a daytime environment temperature of 5c, and the water going into the tank at 10c, it would take about 3 hours for the water in the tank to reach 60c. * The ideal temperature for a hot bath is recommended at 45c.

On a summer's day with a daytime environment temperature of 18c and the water going into the tank at 25c it would take about 1 1/2 hours for the water in the tank to reach 60c.
